Nels “Knute” Klepp

Nels “Knute” Klepp – (1892-1918) – US ARMY veteran that died of disease (2 Oct 1918) during World War 1 and is buried in Rice Free Lutheran Cemetery, Zerkel, Clearwater County, MN. Pvt Nels Klepp was born in Norway to Gunsten and Gyro Klepp, they immigrated to America in 1904 and settled in Rice Township near Rockstad Lake. His Draft card dated June 5, 1917 lists Mallard, MN as his place of registration. He departed for the oversea war on August 16th, 1918, and died in Europe less than 2 months later.
