Harry Kortan was born on April 14, 1932 in Bagley to Joseph and Bernetta Kortan. He grew up in Bagley and attended Bagley schools. 

He entered the Army in 1952 and was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for basic training. He was attached to the 529th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. He received an honorable discharge in 1954.

Harry died on October 31, 2001 and is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bagley.
