Almer Birger Olson was born December 1, 1917 in Gonvick to Einar and Sigborg Stavn Olson. He grew up in the Gonvick area and attended Hangaard Country School.

Almer was 22 and working as a farm hand for Earl Wagner when he registered for the draft at Winsor Township in 1940. He entered the Army Air Corps March 18, 1942 at Fort Snelling and was sent to Georgia for training. He was a gunner on a B-17 for the duration of the war. He received an honorable discharge on December 13, 1945.

Almer died in 1983 and is buried in Hangaard Cemetery.
