Alvin “Dude” Olson was born on May 8, 1923 to Bernard and Grace Ingalls Olson in Hibbing, Minnesota. He moved to Bagley with his family as a child and graduated from Bagley High School in 1941. He had brothers Earl and Boyd Olson and sisters Winifred and Beryl.
He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1942 until 1945. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and was activated during the Korean Conflict. He was released from the Reserves in 1951.
He was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation in the Bemidji District#2 from 1947 to 1985, retiring as a project technician.
He married Elizabeth “Lib” Gorman on December 18, 1973 in Bemidji. They had daughters Barbara and Becky and son Bill, along with step-children Jeff and Jill.
Dude was a poast commander and member for 62 years of the Ralph Gracie American Legion in Bemidji, a member of the 40 & 8 Voiture No. 582 for 42 years and a member of the Bemidji Elks Lodge 1052. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and curling.
He died on December 2, 2006 in Bemidji and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery.
