Bennie O. Gulbranson was born May 4, 1916 in Rice Township to Peter and Lydia Walberg Gulbranson. He grew up in the Zerkel area and attended country school in Rice Township. 

Bennie entered the Army Air Corps on February 2, 1942. He was sent overseas to fight in France and the European Theater. He received an honorable discharge on November 21, 1945.

Bennie passed away July 20, 1988 and is buried in Rice Free Lutheran Cemetery near Zerkel.
