Daniel R. Rivera was born August 16, 1950 in Bagley to Tony and Alice Volden Rivera. He grew up in Bagley and graduated from Bagley High School in 1968.

Dan enlisted in the Army on 16 June, 1968 and was sent to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for basic training. He attended advanced training as a mechanic at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His duty stations included Korea, Fort Knox, Kentucky and Germany. He received an honorable discharge on June 16, 1971.

He and his wife Dawn currently live near Leonard, Minnesota.
