Donald Martin Fitch was born May 6,1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Harry and Alta Fitch. He had one brother Robert.  He grew up in Oakland, California where he attended elementary and high school.

Donald entered the Air Force on January 18, 1952. He received training as a jet mechanic at Sheppard, Amarillo and Randolph Air Force Bases in Texas, after which he was sent to Luke AFB near Glendale, Arizona. He was a flight engineer on C-141 Starlifters.

He married Airman 3c Ann H. Block in the chapel of Hamilton Air Force Base, CA on February 7, 1960. At the time he was a staff sergeant with the 78th Organizational Maintenance Squadron at Hamilton AFB. The couple made their home in Hayward.

In 1967 Donald was sent to Vietnam. He was a maintenance supervisor of an R & R shop in Cam Ranh Bay. When his tour in Vietnam was finished in December of ‘68 he was sent to Travis AFB in California to work on fleet line supply.  

Master Sergeant Fitch retired in June of 2005 as a fleet engineer mechanic at Travis AFB. He retired to Hines, Minnesota and died on December 22, 2016. He is buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
