Douglas A. Fredrickson was born June 16, 1949 in Bemidji to Ken and Bea Fredrickson. He grew up in the Alida area and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1967. 

He immediately enlisted in the Army in June of 1967 and was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana for basic training. He attended further advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. As an engineer of B company, 577th Engineer Battalion he saw duty in Spain, Germany, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge on June 18, 1970.

Doug presently lives near Alida, Minnesota.
