Edna M. Highberg

 

Edna Marie Highberg was born November 2, 1917 in Bagley to Victor and Christine Erickson Hogberg. She had two brothers, Alvin and Axel. She attended country school 3 miles east of Bagley, then went to Bagley High School where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1935.

Edna went to nurse’s training at Chicago State Hospital in Illinois while staying at the Cook County Nurse’s Dorm. After becoming an RN she worked as a general nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and the State Hospital in Rochester(1938).

She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps on January 24, 1941. 1st Lieutenant Highberg spent most of the war on duty in England where many war casualties were sent. She was honorably discharged on June 13, 1946.

After the war Edna lived and worked in various places. She passed away April 17, 1999 and is buried in Bagley City Cemetery.
