Elmer W. Gulbranson

Elmer W. Gulbranson was born March 18, 1913 in Rice Township to Peter and Lydia Walberg Gulbranson. He grew up in the Zerkel area and went to country school in Rice Township.

Elmer entered the Army in May of 1942 and served 18 months in the North Africa Campaign with the 39th Infantry Division. He took part in the Battle of Kasserine Pass, a battle of the Tunisia Campaign that took place in February of 1943. He was wounded during service and was discharged from Schick General Hospital at Clinton, Iowa on April 24, 1944. His injuries included a collapsed lung. 

Elmer passed away August 10, 1962 and is buried in Rice Free Lutheran Cemetery near Zerkel.
