Francis “Fran” Bagne
Francis “Fran” Romain Bagne was born May 23, 1920 in Gonvick, Minnesota to Andrew and Lena Malmo Bagne. He attended Gonvick High School and spent his entire life in Gonvick except for his 4 years in the Army.
Fran enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1942 and was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945 at war’s end.
In 1946 he and his brother Arthur bought their father’s business, forming Bagne Oil Company. He was on of the first fire chiefs in Gonvick and a three-term mayor of Gonvick. Fran served two terms as the 5th District County Commissioner. He was also an active member of the Gonvick American Legion and a founding member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Trail Post.
Fran passed away March 17, 1997 and is buried in Samhold Cemetery, Gonvick.
