                                                          HARRY ARVID LARSON  

  • Harry Arvid Larson was born in Shevlin, Minnesota on September 20, 1924, to parents Gilbert and Martha Larson.

Harry grew up in the Shevlin area of Clearwater County.  He attended the Shevlin Elementary School, in Shevlin, Minnesota, and graduated from Bagley High School, Bagley, Minnesota in 1943.

Harry Arvid Larson entered the U S Army on June 16, 1943.

Harry was stationed at Camp Hood, Killeen, Texas, for Basic Training; then attended Combat Engineer’s training at Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Arkansas. Harry was then assigned to Company B, 289th Combat Engineers Battalion.  His military specialty was Combat Engineer.

The 289th Combat Engineers Battalion served under XXI Corps of the Seventh Army in action mainly in France and Germany during 1944 and 1945. It received campaign credit for participation in the Ardennes-Alsace campaign (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland campaign, and the Invasion of Germany.

Harry Arvid Larson was discharged from Active Duty on January 1, 1945.

Harry Arvid Larson passed away on September 27, 2018, and is buried in Landstad Cemetery, Shevlin, Minnesota.
