Harry L. Ames was born March 13, 1918 in Akeley, Minnesota to Charles and Ida Ames. He grew up in rural Waubun and attended Waubun area schools.

Harry entered the Army on January 23, 1942 at Fort Snelling. He specialized in Vehicle (Third Echelon) Mechanic Automotive/965. He was sent overseas to Africa, England, Paris, France, and the Middle East. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 15, 1945.

Harry passed away November 11, 2001 and is buried in the Bagley City Cemetery.
