Hilburn Henry Howard was born February 14, 1922 in Slocomb, Alabama to Henry and Helen Patterson Howard. He grew up in Slocomb and graduated high school in Panama City, Florida.

Hilburn joined the Coast Guard on August 28, 1942. He attended boot camp in New Orleans, Louisiana, then went on the Motor Machinist training. He achieved Motor Machinist’s Mate Third Class before his discharge on October 25, 1945.

Hilburn passed away on January 31, 2010 and is buried in the Bagley City Cemetery.
