Ivan L. Sutherland was born August 26, 1913 in Lost Springs, Wyoming to parents Joseph and Anna Sutherland. He grew up in Wyoming, Nebraska and Bagley. He attended school at Lost Springs, Wyoming and Petersburg, Nebraska.  

Ivan entered the Army on April 20, 1944 and was sent to Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi for basic training. He served with the 1265th Engineer Combat Battalion until his discharge due to medical issues on August 29, 1944. Ivan served as chaplain for American Legion Post 16 in Bagley for many years.

Ivan died November 6, 1999 and is buried in the Rice Lake Episcopal Cemetery.
