James Jacobson was born September 20, 1984 at Columbus AFB, Columbus, Mississippi to Terry and Beth Ann Fuchs Jacobson. He was raised in Barnesville, Minnesota and attended Atkinson Elementary in Barnesville. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 2003.

James entered into the Army on July 14, 2003. He was sent to Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma for basic and advanced training. Following training he served at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado with Bravo Company of the 3-29 Field Artillery Battery, 4th ID. James received an honorable discharge on February 6, 2011.

He currently resides in Barnesville.
