Janey Louise Merseth Merschman

Janey Louise Merseth was born on March 29, 1956 at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital to parents Joe and Hennie (Hanson) Merseth.  She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, Eddy township.   Attending Bagley Public schools, Jane graduated with the class of 1974.   She continued her education in accounting at Bemidji Vocational School until entering the army. 

She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Merschman, on June 22, 1974 at Concordia Lutheran Church.  Together, they volunteered in the husband-and-wife program under delayed entry in January of 1975.  She began active duty in the Army on April 28, 1975 at Fort McClellan, Alabama for BCT.  After basic training, she studied 16 weeks at the US Army Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  Graduating from AIT as an Air Traffic Controller, she and her husband Jim traveled to Frankfurt Germany on Thanksgiving Day 1975.  14th  Aviation Headquarters in Schwabisch Hall, Germany was their first duty station where Jane was rated as a 93H10, Tower Operator.   She finished her European tour at Pirmasens Airfield as a fully rated tower operator.   E4 Janey Merschman was honorably discharged on April 19, 1978.

 After military service, Jane pursued her dream of teaching, earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bemidji State University in 1982.  She also received her Master’s Degree from Bemidji State in 1988.   Employed by the Bagley School District from 1982 until her retirement in 2014, she was a daily substitute teacher, a long-term substitute teacher, a Title I teacher, as well as teaching first grade, sixth grade, eighth grade language arts and eighth grade algebra.  

 Jane has three children and six grandchildren: daughter Janelle (Mark) Speerschneider and Charlotte; daughter Janice (Tom) Hawkins, Taya, Paityn and Conner; and son Jared (Kim) Merschman, Emma and Owen. 

 In retirement, Jane continues to be a Clearwater County Resident, active in her church, the lives of her children & grandchildren and the community in which she lives.
