Jeremy “Ross” Braaten was born November 27, 1959 in Fosston, Minnesota to Donald and Ellen (Thayer) Braaten. He grew up in Bagley and graduated from Bagley High School with the class of 1978.

Ross immediately entered the Marine Corps on June 1, 1978 and was sent to San Diego for boot camp. He received advanced training at San Diego. He was awarded the M-16 rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was attached to the 3rd Battalion, Platoon 3056 at Camp Pendleton, California. He received an honorable discharge on January 7, 1983.

Ross died on January 1, 2001 and is buried in the Bagley City Cemetery.
