John Lanners

John Lanners was born on August 13, 1922 in Victor Township, White Rock, South Dakota to Frank and Katie Mary Miller Lanners. He grew up on a farm southeast of Shevlin and attended school at District 35 in Moose Creek Township.

John enlisted in the Navy on January 27, 1944 and was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois for boot camp. He served time in the Pacific as a Seaman First Class until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1944. He received a Purple Heart medal.

John passed away on October 6, 1997 and is buried in Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery near Shevlin.
