John P. Theis

John P. Theis was born August 17, 1894 in Eden Valley, Meeker County, Minnesota to parents John and Mary Theis. He grew up and attended school in the Eden Valley area. He came to the Bagley area in 1913 and settled on a farm in Popple Township in 1920.

John was inducted into the Army on August 8, 1918 at Langdon, North Dakota and sent to Camp Mather, Texas for basic training. He was then sent overseas to help fight WWI. He served in Company D, 10th Infantry until September 21, 1918; then in Headquarters 2nd Battalion, 329th Infantry until October 22, 1918; then with Company I, 132nd Infantry. His military record states that he was engaged in the defense of the Troyon (Lorraine) sector. His last duty was in Germany. He was discharged as a private from Camp Dodge, Iowa on May 26, 1919.

He married Irene Trimble at Fosston on January 16, 1933 and they had children Lawrence, Alton, Allen and Kathy.

John died May 30, 1962 and is buried in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bagley.
