Lawrence Strandlien

Lawrence Hartvig Strandlien was born July 19, 1930 in Shevlin to Emil and Mabel Sether Strandlien. He grew up in the Shevlin area and attended Shevlin School. 

Lawrence enlisted in the Army on February 21, 1952 and was sent for duty in Korea, where he had a distinguished military record. He entered into combat in June of 1952. His most significant duty assignment was with Company K, 179th Infantry Regiment, American Pacific Operation 86. He made sergeant in June, 1953 and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars; the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device, the U.N. Service Medal and the Nation Defense Service Medal. He had one overseas bar. He spent the next 8 years in the Army reserves. 

Lawrence passed away on July 27, 2017 and is buried in Solway Cemetery near Solway.
