Leroy Bennet Leines was born on April 29, 1930 in Norman County to William and Alma Ysteness Leines. He grew up on a farm in Norman County and attended country school there. He graduated from Gary High School in 1949.

Leroy enlisted in the Air Force on December 2, 1950. He was sent to Sioux City Air Base in Iowa for basic and advanced training and was then stationed there as an aircraft mechanic with the 14th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. He received an honorable discharge on December 2, 1954.

Leroy passed away December 30, 2012 and is buried in Faaberg Cemetery in Rindahl, Minnesota.
