Orlo LeRoy Meyer

Orlo LeRoy Meyer was born in Afton, Minnesota on January 24, 1911 to parents Alvin and Margaret King Meyer.  He came to Clearwater County with his parents when he was three years old. He had brothers Leo, Chester, Fred, Randall, Lester and Emmett and a sister June. He attended school in Bagley. He worked for his parents and for a neighbor, John Carlson, doing farm work. 

Orlo registered for the draft on October 16, 1940 in Nora Township. He weighed 250 lbs. and was 5’11”.  He had brown hair and blue eyes. 

He was drafted into the Army on June 15, 1942 and worked as a wheeled vehicle auto mechanic. He was attached to the 936th Ordinance HAM Company in the European Theater.  He was discharged after the war ended on December 5, 1945.

He worked for the Clearwater County Highway Department for several years, then moved to Oregon where he lived from 1957 to 1966. He returned to the Bagley area and worked for Maynard Thorson Construction Co. for several years before retirement. He was a member of the American Legion. 

Orlo had children Warren, Clifford and Raymond. 

Orlo passed away on September 24, 1988 and was buried in the Bagley City Cemetery with military honors.
