ORVILLE BERG HANSON

Orville Berg Hanson was the fifth child born to parents Ben and Fina Hanson on January 7, 1927.  Orville was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St Petri church.  He attended District 30 Hillside school through the 8th grade and then Bagley High School, graduating in 1945.  He entered the military during his senior year.

Orville enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 29th, 1944 and traveled to Great Lakes, Illinois for basic training.  He was deployed to the Pacific Theater, sailing on the USS General M. B. Stewart (AP-140), a General G. O. Squier-Class transport ship.   The M.B. Stewart was  stationed at Tacloban, Leyte, in the Philippine Islands.  He was honorably discharged, a Yeoman Third Class,  on August 23, 1946. 

After the war, Orville and his brother Oswald went into the logging business.  Orville married Rose Cleveland on September 11, 1948.  After their first child was born in Bagley, they moved to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Orville and brothers Harlan and Oswald constructed homes.  Returning to Bagley the spring of 1967 with his wife Rose and children Karen, Terry and Kathy, Orville continued building homes until they moved to the Iron Range in 1975.  He worked for Waconia Homes and then moved to the Twin
Cities in the eighties and managed an apartment complex.  Orville and Rose retired to Brainerd, MN, to be close to their children.   

Orville died on May, 10th, 2017.   He is buried at Camp Ripley Veterans Cemetery south of Brainerd, MN.  He is survived by his children:  Karen, Terry and Kathy.
