Orville Palmer Hoie was born May 4, 1920 in Bagley to Peter and Betsy Evermoen Hoie. He grew up in Nora Township.
He entered the Army on December 2, 1941, five days before the bombing at Pearl Harbor. He was sent to basic training at Fort Snelling and advanced training to be a cook at Fort Custer, Michigan. He was a Private First Class with the Medical Department, 127th General Hospital. Orville participated in the Southern France Campaign, the Rome Campaign, and the Naples Campaign in Central Europe. He received an Honorable Discharge on October 22, 1945.
Orville died on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1994 and is buried in Nora Township Cemetery.
