Dale Melander
Phillip “Dale” Melander was born in Berner on March 26, 1933 to Gustav and Caroline Melander. He had four brothers: Robert, Eugene, Roger, and Buddy and five sisters: Leolaa, Grace, Natalie, June and Muriel. He attended country school in Berner and graduated from Gonvick High School.
Dale enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Korea during the conflict there. He received an honorable discharge and then attended Mankato State Teacher’s College to get a Bachelor of Science in History and English. He spent his later years in Minneapolis.
Dale passed away July 4, 1988 and is buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
