Robert “Bobby” Melander was born March 24, 1922 in Berner to Gustav and Caroline Melander. He had four brothers: Roger, Eugene, Phillip and John, plus five sisters: Leola, Grace, Natalie, June and Muriel. Bobby attended elementary school at Berner. Following 8th grade he went to work on the family farm.

Bobby joined the Army on May 19, 1943 and went into the medical field. He was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946. Bobby also served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Bobby passed away on August 22, 1987 in Seattle, Washington. He is buried in United Lutheran Cemetery in Berner.
